Accomplished quite a few things today. The herbs are growing like crazy and just purchased Tarragon and Sweet Banana Peppers to add to the aquaponics. My goal is to be able to grow Herbs for medicinal purposes, food and just to make different tonics and rubs.   I also hope to open a herb stand or do ebay with the Herbs.  Daddy had a green thumb and I think he passed it off on me..... Our basil.. Have Lemon Basil and Purple Basil growing also.

Learning how to live the Simple Life

There was once a time that I wanted it all, the Big Fancy Car and the Beautiful House with a pool. When I hit 50, something changed inside me. I realized the car nor the house was important. What is important how I am going to live the rest of my life Stress and Drama Free.

For me this means, outside in the garden growing the Vegetables and Aquaponics. I really hate going to the grocery store with the Outrageous prices and you never know what kind of unhealthy stuff will be in your food products.  I was one of those that ran to the store for everything and now I run outside my back door straight to the gardens.

Another hobby that I have taken up lately is Photography. I may not be as well as I want to be yet but I know I have the eye for special settings. Photography holds special memories for years to come. What will your family say when they try to remember special occasions? Wouldn't it be better to be able to share some family photos??

I have to be honest, my mom was always taking pictures. She had albums and albums of many happy times and places. She passed away, big family fight and all those pictures disappeared.  I now have just memories. Which makes me real sad, but at least I have the memories.

So as you get older, what really matters to you? Is it the big fancy cars with big bills or is living peacefully and stress free and drama free??

It's your choice.

Where did time go?

Looking back on all these years, I wonder where did time go? What happened to my dreams in the past? Why did I let a man control me for all those years? All I can say is I don't really know why.. Codependent maybe, was afraid of being alone.  But thats all in the past and now I am free of those chains that bound me for so long. Celebrating my anniversary tomorrow with the man that helped set me free. Now I am concentrating on keeping myself healthy and making great strides with my painting furniture business. Life is good!!! Thank you for stopping by here as I learn more on how to blog I will be adding more and even thinking of writing a book that can help other women release the chains of a relationship gone wrong.  Feel free to leave comments :)

Time to get this Blogging back in business...  I have been so busy the past few months and have neglected this blog.. Sorry guys, life has habit of taking over and taking me in other directions.

Where do I start? Just turned 50 years old... Where did time go? I went through some mental challenges like menopause and all that other stuff. I decided to start living the simple life. No stress, hanging clothes on the line and just enjoying the Country life.

I have also been designing my Seaside collection... which means painting furniture again. I seem to have friends that are really interested in what I do, which makes me very very happy.  Have to thank JunkYard Gypsies for giving me the courage to go after my dream, which is repainting furniture and bringing old back to new. I design Seaside furniture and Kids furniture. Don't think you will see anything like this in the store. They all have personal touches.. So let me take you on a tour of what I do. This is my recent project. Working on another piece that I will have online tomorrow.. Thanks for looking :)

Grannies Refurbished furniture

I have always loved to paint and I have been doing quite more than usual lately. Refurbishing furniture has turned into more than a hobby. Call me crazy, but I think each piece of furniture has a story behind it and if it's just a little piece, how can I make it more beautiful? How can I bring joy to another person with a piece of furniture.

Look around today and all the beautiful items are high priced. With economy the way it is, someone needed to step in and make it more affordable. That's where I am hoping to go, it was always my dream to open up a little corner store where I can have my little painted knick knacks or refurbished items...  One day that dream will come true. I have met so many wonderful people that are doing the same thing as I am and I am learning so much from them. Kudos to The Purple Painted Lady for taking my call out of no where and being able to help me. I really appreciated that.

Thanks to all the new followers that I have on Grannies Refurbished Furniture on my Facebook page and thanks to my wonderful husband who said to me yesterday, "Keep this up we are going to have to get a truck." Yes Dear, I do think you are right. :)

I want to give a big high five for Visalus for giving me the opportunity to be able to work home keeping me healthy and happy and to further my other dream, Refurbishing Furniture.  Thank you all for reading my blog...

In the arms of Angels

Good morning, Hug your family a little closer today.... Reach out to that special someone that you haven't talked to in a while.... Lets bring it back to the good ole days where one went out and talked to their friends and neighbors and lets bring Religion back into our lives.

First of all, we give our deepest sympathy and regrets to Newtown, CT and its residents.  I wish we could erase that day and pretend that it never happened. But we can't, we can go on and give out hugs and prayers, we can go on and try and make it better but we can't. We can only learn from this.

But what do we learn exactly?  What lesson do we take in from this?  We learn never to take Life for granted. Anything can happen at any moment. Just make sure that your loved ones know how much they mean to you.  I hear alot of issues about Gun Control and how we should ban Guns, but is that the answer? I don't think it is. I think the answer is more help for the Mentally Challenged and Mentally unstable. Stop tossing them aside and get them the help that they need.

Maybe, we do need a little more Gun Control but not to the extreme where they want to ban all guns. Some how the criminals will get their hands on Guns and then what protection will we have?  Learn to respect the Gun and what it stands for. If your going to own a Gun, be a responsible gun owner. That is the key, Responsibility.

Again, hugs and prayers to Newtown, CT and its residents. One day your town will be full of laughter and joy but until then, Never say Goodbye.. Just say See you later.... Your loved ones are right beside you full of Joy in the arms of Angels. Love you all!!

The Angel of Staten Island

Happy Tuesday...

As always, I like to introduce you to people who have made a strong impact on me and others.
Patricia Madsen came into my life many years ago and I am proud to call her a good friend. She has been an Angel for Staten Island and its residents, I will let her tell you her story....

Written from Patricia Madsen herself.

Two yrs ago I did a relief fund for Alabama when the tornado's hit there. We sent over 4 18 wheeler tractor trailers full of supplies and goods to them!! Two yrs ago my daughters were 2 and 3.
When Hurricane Sandy hit, my daughter Andrea (who is now 5) was sitting on the couch with us watching the news. She looked over at me and said "Mommy what are we going to do?" I looked at her in a state of shock... and said "Mommy is working on something, don't worry baby girl!" Although I had nothing planned I could not disappoint my baby girls!!!! So like a crazy person, I didn't sleep for two days straight, just thinking about what we could do. And I finally came up with an idea. Before I said anything to my husband, I sat down with Andrea and Kelly and told them I came up with an idea. They were so excited. I asked them "baby girls would you like to cook thanksgiving dinner and bring it to Staten Island?" Andrea said "And we can serve them and help them out, the people who got hurt by Sandy?" I said with tears in my eyes "yes baby girl!" I called Pj (my husband) and told him what I had come up with and he said "lets do it, Im ready" Who knew doing the relief fund two years ago would put such an impact on her life. They were so excited. So I had to live up to their expections.
I got their schools involved and friends family and neighbors, even friends from out of state!! I was able to send over an 18 wheeler tractor trailer filled to the max in two weeks!!!! I was able to get in contact with an awesome guy named Jean in Staten Island who lost everything himself, but chose to take care of his community by setting up a relief center. He had it open 24/7. he was there sleeping in a tent taking care of everyone else but himself.
Two days before we left for our first trip out to Staten Island I started cooking, and cooking, and cooking. I cooked 400 lbs of food by myself with just my girls and a very good friend, Carol who doesn't cook but she stayed by my side doing whatever she could do. We went out to Staten Island with 500 lbs of food the day before Thanksgiving and served the community from 11 am till 10 pm.
We cried our eyes out when we got there, and we cried our eyes when we left. The devastation is unbelievable. And I knew I just couldn't stop there. When I set my mind to something I go all the way!!! So I told my girls and PJ and Jean that I would be back, I'm not going to forget about them.
There were people there that touched my heart like you couldn't even imagine. We have gone out every weekend helping and volunteering. Last week we meet two families that have broke our hearts, and we knew we had to dedicate a lot of our time to them.
One family has 4 children, a husband and wife. Fran is such an amazing person, she touched our hearts tremendously. We have been cooking for her family for the last two weeks. I make sure I cook enough to last them a whole week. Until we come back.
Fran had told Carol and I that she doesnt even have any money to get her daughter (who is 13) a Xmas tree. We took her to the relief center that we were volunteering at and she got so much stuff. This past weekend we went to Staten Island on a Mission bigger than just cooking. I cooked tons of food for her family brought her tons of donations. Pj said "No child should be without a christmas tree" He bought her a Christmas tree, lights and decorations. We knocked on her door and the girls gave her the tree! Just the smile on her face was worth everything!! She was so happy to have received the tree, she started tearing up. She gave me the biggest hug a little girl could give. Her father was crying, which in turn made us all cry. Her son looked at me and said "It's because of people like you who make us get up everyday with a smile on our face, if it wasn't for you guys we would have given up already!" That broke my heart and made me cry even more!!
After we left them we went to our other friend Steve. Who lost EVERYTHING!!! When Sandy hit he went into his crawl space in the attic with his wife 85lb dog and 7 cats, and rode the storm out up there. He brought a bottle of 151 rum just in case they were going to drown. He was going to give his wife a drink so she would go to sleep and not experience the travesty of drowning!! We brought him trays and trays of food. A propane stove, a heater so he could stay warm, cleaning supplies and masks. He was so great ful for everything. He walked me through what was left of his house. It was the most horrible sight I have ever seen in my life. The smell was horrible. But he has the most amazing outlook on life. He is very cheerful and has his American flag hanging from the front of his house.
We walk up and down the streets, and see homes knocked off of their foundations, homes destroyed from the bottom up. Children's toys crushed. You can see through peoples houses, their kitchens with no walls. Kids bedrooms just demolished and left with nothing in them. Toothbrushes on the floor in the mud, peoples family pictures. Their lives in piles of rumble, being put into dumpsters.
People like that break my heart and make me do this. I do this because not only do I care about people, but I am doing this because I am teaching my girls what being a great person is. If I want my girls to change the world it has to start with PJ and I!!!

If you would like to donate, let me know and I will put you in contact with The Angel of StatenIsland.
The relief Center that she is working with is located at  626 midland ave Staten Island NY 10306
If your local in the area, she is looking for Christmas Toys to bring the children of Staten Island.
